January 23, 2023 | Araneta Coliseum
Concerts, events, music festivals and the likes have slowly made a return to the country since 2022. And this year, we’re seeing more artists making their way to the country as everyone definitely missed live music and seeing their faves onstage. And what a good way to start the year than with a back to back concert right?! Originally slated to be just one concert, the demand and excitement was over the top and hence, another show was added to the January 23 concert. But what makes the back to back concert historical is the fact that it’s 2 shows in one night. Talk about energy!
The first concert started right on time at 6 PM. Ne-Yo opened the show with “Miss Independent” which was quickly followed by “She Knows”, “Because of You” and “Champagne Life”. He also did a medley of songs he helped compose: Keri Hilson’s “Knock You Down”, Rihanna’s “Take a Bow” and Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable”. When he performed what arguable is one of his biggest hits, “Closer”, the crowd got up on their feet and really danced and sang along with him.
The second show, which started at 9 PM, is highlighted by the cute little reunion of Ne-Yo and Miss Universe Catriona Gray, who did her infamous Lava Walk – which she showcased to the world back in 2018 wherein Ne-Yo serenaded the candidates.
While we surely can never feel “So Sick” of his classics, do make sure to pick up a copy of his latest album “Self-Explanatory”.
